Hurricane Season Prep Tips for 2024

Hurricane season preparation tips graphic, advice for boat owners.

Summer is here, and so is hurricane season.

To help you weather upcoming storms, the Hurricane Boat Lifts team got together to share their best hurricane preparedness tips.

While you don’t need a full survival shelter packed with ten years’ worth of tools, food, and water, there are reasonable items that everyone should set aside, especially before hurricane season.

Have the following items in a location where they can be easily accessed:

  • At least 7-10 days of bottled drinking water
  • Flashlights
  • Extra batteries
  • Solar-paneled fans
  • Coolers
  • Non-perishable canned goods

There are also multiple steps you should take to protect your home and family before a storm hits. These steps include:

  • Evacuation plan
  • Flood-proof your home
  • Use a waterproof safe to protect irreplaceable and important documents
  • Check window and door seals
  • Install/update storm shutters

If possible, have a generator or alternate shelter location with a full house generator to live comfortably after a storm hits and your home potentially loses power.

Tyler’s Tips

HBL Engineer Tyler takes a few additional steps to prepare his boat for hurricane season. “I add extra wheel chocks for my trailer, I take the boat cover off, double check to make sure the boat plug is out, all electronics are off, console and storage are locked.”
